Halloween 2012

The Witch´s Kitchen

On the 31st October Maria Moliner School celebrated Halloween! The whole school was transformed into a scary haunted school with the help of our wonderful parents..  and the main hall became “The Witch´s Kitchen”!!!  Very scary!!! The infants and first cycle were invited to touch the Wicked Witch´s culinary creations… was that delicious spaghetti or horrible worms and snakes? Was that a tasty soup or Monster´s wee? And horror of horrors… was that skeleton´s hand ALIVE?? How creepy !

The Mad Scientist´s Lab

Year One students took part in a Mad Science Experiment on Halloween, with terrifyingly spook-tacular results! With a little help from some Nutty Professors the students turned old t-shirts into fang-tastic, and fashionable, Halloween costumes!

The Games

Maria Moliner Primary students spent the Halloween afternoon playing some very frightening Halloween games… Anyone for Pass the Pumpkin? Or a Tug of Terror? And watch out for the Crazy Snake… These aren´t the Olympic Games… these are the Maria Moliner Halloween Games, no wimps allowed!

JUNGLE FEVER!

On the 14th March, CEIP Maria Moliner caught a serious case of Jungle Fever! Hoardes of monkeys, elephants and and tigers from Infants joined the first cycle tigers and lions, and flocked to the school gymnasium to watch a wild theatre production from the Face 2 Face theatre company. With jungle songs, jungle crys and jungle chants, we watched Oscar the Ostrich and Tam the Jungle Queen fight off the scary lion, with the help of lots of other exotic friends including parrots, snakes, fish and many more! The day was a great success and the children clearly had a great time. One, two, three... ROAR!!!

PANCAKE DAY!

On Tuesday 21st February, CEIP Maria Moliner School celebrated Pancake Day!!! There must have been a lot of very busy chefs in San Jose the night before, because there were so many pancakes to enjoy at snacktime! All the children dressed up as Pancake Chefs, in aprons and chef´s hats, and we sat down for a delicious pancake feast with lemon and sugar in the morning, in the Comedor or in our class rooms. In the afternoon, in line with tradition, we raced in our class groups outside. We were lucky that it was the first warm, sunny day after so much cold weather! It was a real success- and the children looked fantastic racing in their chef outfits, and of course not forgetting to TOSS THE PANCAKE!!

PANCAKE DAY

Shrove Tuesday (also known as Pancake Day) is the day preceding Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent. Shrove Tuesday is observed mainly in English speaking countries, especially Ireland, United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand.
Pancakes are associated with the day preceding Lent because they were a way to use up rich foodstuffs such as eggs, milk, and sugar, before the fasting season of the 40 days of Lent. On Pancake Day, pancake races are held in villages and towns across the United Kingdom. The tradition is said to have originated when a housewife from Olney was so busy making pancakes that she forgot the time until she heard the church bells ringing for the service. She raced out of the house to church while still carrying her frying pan and pancake. The pancake race remains a relatively common festive tradition in the UK, and England in particular, even today. Participants with frying pans race through the streets tossing pancakes into the air, catching them in the pan whilst running.
Here you can find a video of how to make English pancakes.

The Christmas Concert

On the 19th December Maria Moliner Bilingual School started the Christmas celebrations off with a very festive Christmas Concert. The children congregated with their tutors in the Main Entrance hall and rang in the festive season with a big sing-song of all the Christmas classics, including "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" (Infants), "I´m a Little Snowman" (Years 1 and 2), Rudolph the Red-Nose Reindeer" (Years 3 and 4), "Christmas Bells" (Years 5 and 6) and much, much more! Each cycle also prepared a Spanish song to sing. It was a really special afternoon, and everyone enjoyed singing together and celebrating the Christmas season!
